It’s official: Shadowbox Live is coming to the Brewery District.

On Tuesday afternoon, the music and sketch-comedy troupe signed a 30-year lease to occupy about 80 percent of the Worly Building, located near West Blenkner and South Front streets.

“It’s an iconic building, and it’s Downtown — and that’s really important to us,” general manager Katy Psenicka said. “We really want to get Downtown and feel like we’re neighbors with people like CAPA and BalletMet.”

Shadowbox plans to host its first show in the new space in early July, Psenicka said.

The nonprofit organization first announced plans to relocate to Brewmasters Gate in July 2008. It later considered staying at Easton because of financing concerns, then chose the Worly because of its marquee value.

“If we stayed at Easton, we were always going to be Shadowbox at Easton,” Psenicka said. “That was an emotional part of the decision for us. There was a desire for us to let the brand stand on its own.”

The new Brewery District space will feature a larger theater, with about 320 seats, as well as more space for rehearsals, storage and offices. The Backstage Bistro, a separate bar and cafe, will begin serving breakfast and lunch this winter before expanding to offer dinner and drinks.
