2010 in Review: Year in photos

I love it when bands come up with their own ideas for photo shoots. The Black Swans dressed up the backyard and, well, you just can't beat Birdie the dog sitting in a yellow chair. I think she plays keys.

When we're photographing local bands, we normally shoot the whole band. So that's what we tried first with country songstress Lydia Loveless and the trio of guys in her backup band. But it just wasn't working for me. I pulled Lydia away, and we made a few pictures without the band. I really like how they turned out. She has great eyes and many different looks. Sorry, boys.

The Manhattan at Sage is a simple, elegant drink from a simple, elegant restaurant.

We have a lot of food photos in Alive, which means I get to visit lots of awesome Columbus eateries - even if I don't get to eat the food. I've recently been trying to work cutlery into the photos, and I thought it worked pretty well with this stunning salad at Rigsby's Kitchen.

Local comedian Zachariah Baird took a pie in the face for our Columbus Comedy Festival issue. He was a great sport. And acomplete mess after. A photo shoot with a bunch of talented comedians - yep, another tough day at the office.
