Best Use of Plantains: El Arepazo
We hereby dub the Downtown corner of High and Gay streets the Plantain District - you can find the banana-like tropical fruit at not one but three eateries within a one-block radius. Plantain Cafe and Casa Sazon both offer tasty takes, but El Arepazo puts them to use best in their Patacon. The base is a ripe whole plantain that's been pounded flat and deep fried. On top of that faux-tortilla comes a heap of shredded stewy meat (pick from chicken, beef or pork), mozzarella cheese, avocados and shredded lettuce. Douse it in Arepazo's insanely delicious cilantro sauce and you've got something pretty addictive.
