Staff Pick: Columbus Audubon Bird Hike

Columbus Alive

Birds frequent the hardwood forests, open meadows and stream-cut ravines of Blendon Woods Metro Park. But they positively adore the 118-acre Walden Waterfowl Refuge, which features the large Thoreau Lake and several sheltered wetland areas complete with native grasses. (If you're a waterfowl, this is like spring break in Cancun.)

Birds will be soaring in and out of town during annual migrations, so you'll have plenty to see Sunday morning on a short spotting hike with Columbus Audubon naturalist Bruce Simpson. Dress warmly, and bring binoculars if you have them. Meet at the nature center.
