Catwalk for Cancer
Thursday evening, a group of Dublin Jerome High School students is putting on a fashion show called Catwalk for Cancer to benefit the American Cancer Society. The school's Youth Cancer Ambassadors came up with the idea, which will feature students modeling clothing provided by local malls and shops.
The fashion show is the not the first effort by the Youth Cancer Ambassadors. They also participate in Relay for Life, and had a Colors of Cancer Week in which they sold colored wristbands to students at lunch to raise funds.
"It's a misconception that people have, that kids can't make a difference," said Sharonya Vadakattu, a freshman at Dublin Jerome and a Youth Cancer Ambassador member. "It's important to get the word out to high school students. It helps them take that extra step, and maybe it will inspire them to do something similar."
Thursday's Catwalk for Cancer will take place at Dublin Jerome High School at 6:30 p.m. Appetizers and desserts will be served, and the $5 tickets can be purchased at the door. --Heather Weekley
