Staff Pick: Catch the Current

The sprawling development of Central Ohio has touched the banks of Big Darby Creek, yet the river continues to flow through the healthiest warm-water ecosystem in the Midwest. Its quality supports rare mussel and darter populations, and its beauty explodes in emerald greenery, fragrant wildflowers and eddies shaded by towering sycamores.

If a lack of equipment has kept you from heading downriver, join Catch the Current, a pair of four-hour canoe trips launching at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday from Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park. Rangers will provide boats, paddles, jackets and return transportation during a day you'll never forget.

Register in advance at, and meet at the canoe access parking lot.
