Takeout: Temptations Indian Cuisine

Shelley Mann, Columbus Alive

In an attempt to detox a bit after some long-weekend overindulgences, I drove out to Reynoldsburg last night in search of vegan salads at Loving Hut. Sadly, I didn't check their hours before leaving, and arrived to find they're closed on Tuesdays. Boo.

Instead, I picked up some decidedly non-vegan (but very tasty) Indian food at Temptations, a new restaurant right up the street from Loving Hut on Brice Road in Reynoldsburg.

I tried a trio of appetizers (on the menu, they're called Snacky Choices, which I love. Other menu sections: Earthen Treats, Fiery Feasts, Dessert Delights)

Sikandari Paneer Shashlik: Homemade cottage cheese and bell peppers marinated, skewered and grilled with spices, finished with malt vinegar and olive oil

Vegetable Manchurian: Mixed vegetable dumplings sauteed with chopped onions, ginger, garlic and finished with soy sauce

Special Crab Cakes: Crab meat patties mixed with curry leaves, ginger and onions, served with a ginger-plum chutney

And then I also got a side of Kabuli Naan (stuffed with cashews, raisins and red cherries) and some Raita (onions, cucumbers and carrots in homemade yogurt).

I liked everything, especially the gingery crab cakes, which were great dipped in the slightly spicy chutney. Looking forward to going back and checking out some of the entrees. Temptations also offers a buffet at lunch and dinner, a good way to try a bunch of different things.

Now, though, it's off to find a salad.
