Best bacon dishes in Columbus
Bacon Camp, Wild Goose Creative's awesomely fun celebration of all things bacon, returns to the North Market this Saturday. It's got us thinking about our favorite bacon dishes around town.
First off, let's talk favorite bacon side dish. That honor goes to the sweet and spicy bacon at Katalina's Cafe Corner, pictures above next to their Mexican French Toast. This stuff is insanely good: thick, chewy and boasting a sugary caramelized exterior. I'd almost compare it to candied bacon, except the meat is infused with spicy heat. It's something you've gotta try to believe, and it goes great with this cinnamon-and-Mexican-chocolate-spiked French toast breakfast.
As for best incorporation of bacon in a dish, that honor changes frequently, but most recently I've been digging the bacon-spiked scallops at Worthington Inn. Scallops are done so frequently, I find it hard to get excited about them. But this treatment is phenomenal. The sweet scallops are actually speared with thick applewood-smoked bacon lardons, which infuses them with a smoky, salty flavor. Served over a saffron risotto and drizzled in citrus butter, it's a real treat.
And of course we can't leave out Sidebar 122's great complimentary bar snack, pint glasses filled with strips of plain-old, fried-up bacon. Yum.
