Fun in the Sun

Summer is finally here. Well, almost-the first official day of summer isn't until June 21, but those sunny skies and hot temps are good enough for us. And after that particularly brutal winter, it's time to get outside. So in honor of National Fishing & Boating Week, June 1 to 8, grab a fishing rod, a cooler and some friends and head out for some fishing at one of several nearby ponds or lakes.

As I mentioned in my "Throwback Summer" piece in the June issue, The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department are stocking six city ponds with catfish and sunfish to promote fishing. There are plenty of other places to fish, though, like Alum Creek State Park, which was recently ranked No. 27 on The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation's list of "Top 100 Family Friendly Places to Fish & Boat in America."

Before you go, check out ODNR's website, which is chock-full of information about fishing regulations, tips and tricks, events and more. You can also obtain or update a fishing license. Happy fishing!
