Imagine! The Art of the Picturebook at CMA
This Friday, the Columbus Museum of Art opens its newest exhibition, Imagine! The Art of the Picturebook. The extensive 75-piece collection is on loan from Columbus collectors Carol and Guy Wolfenbarger and is composed of both original works created for children's books as well as the books themselves. The show offers a unique look at what are, Carol wrote in her collector's statement, "usually the first and most accessible works of art children can experience." Imagine! features work by several recognizable illustrators, including Maurice Sendak, Robert Sabuda, Floyd Cooper, Chris Raschka, Aminah Robinson, Peter Catalanotto, E.B. Lewis, Will Hillenbrand and Barry Moser. The works-drawings, prints, collages, paintings-are split into four groups: Tall Tales (nonfiction), True Tales (fiction), Human Tales (stories involving human nature) and Tales with Tales (stories involving animals).
