Get your chalk sticks ready! Main Street Delaware will hold its 4th annual "Chalk It Up!" sidewalk chalk art contest tomorrow, July 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Artists of all ages invited to decorate the downtown with vibrant works of art. Those wishing to participate in the "Chalk It Up!" competition are invited to secure sidewalk space for $10 per square by visiting www.mainstreetdelaware.com to print a registration form. Forms also are available at Button Up handmade art gallery, 29 N. Sandusky St., or Fundamentals Parent Teacher Bookstore, 25 W. Winter St.

Artists are asked to bring their own chalk and then simply to begin working on their preferred sidewalk square (located on Sandusky Street between Spring Street and Central Avenue or on Winter Street between Franklin and Union streets).

Main Street Delaware volunteers will collect registration forms and number squares for voting. Artists are able to begin working at any time on Friday, July 4, but must be finished by 8 p.m. to allow time for voting. Spectators will be invited to vote for their favorite sidewalk chalk creations in youth and adult categories, and the People's Choice winners will win prizes.

Little artists not participating in the contest but inspired by their fellow pavement Picassos will be able to make sidewalk chalk creations at no cost using chalk provided by area businesses.

The Creative Strings Workshop and Festival. Founded by Delaware Hayes grad and former Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music Christian Howes, the Creative Strings Workshop and Festival offers string players from around the world an opportunity to study improvisation, composition, and styles outside the realm of classical music, while bringing Delaware a plethora of talent and musical energy. Students learn from some of the best string players-Grammy winners included!

Downtown Delaware will be hosting a music hop during First Friday where more than 100 strings players will decend upon town and will be playing a variety of styles from 6-9 p.m. They will take a break and play with the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra during their annual Fourth of July concert starting at 7:30 p.m. then will be playing at Clancey's after the fireworks.
