Wallace Peck Sketches Become Reporting Keepsakes

Staff Writer

Assistant editor Emily Thompson and photographer Tessa Bergspent time with artist Wallace Peck this month, chatting with him, watching him draw and paint and getting to know his artistic process. Wallace finds inspiration for his art in the most ordinary of subjects: People he meets, animals he sees.

Emily and Tessa got to experience that firsthand when Wallace drew them. Emily resourcefully turned her experience into the opening scene of her story (we won't spoil it by summarizing it here). While reporting, we often pick up little keepsakes here and there-a ticket stub, a napkin, laminated credentials. But these sketches are hands-down the best reporting memento we've seen.
