The Independents Day Festivalis definitely one of the coolest and most intriguing family-fun options out there, and it happens this weekend, Sept. 19-21, in Franklinton.

The festival is a celebration of Columbus arts, music, commerce and culture, and there is always a multitude of activities that the whole family can enjoy. From arts and crafts, music, terrarium building, trapeze lessons, food trucks,and a free 5k fun run your family will be entertained at this free festival for hours!

Here is just a tiny sampling of the activities on the docket:

THE Shipping Container PARK: A shipment of large metal shipping containers were delivered to Franklinton a week ago, and a group of vendors has turned turn them into retail stores, art galleries, food concepts and alternative spaces for the weekend.

CRAFT ALLEY: Independent artists, crafters, snack-makers, non-profits and more will be selling everything you never knew you couldn't live without, from soaps and home goods to clothing and accessories. Be on the lookout for games and other activities, too!

Pinata Thunderdome: Local artists have crafted special works of piñata art. Buy a ticket to take a swing, or just enjoy the show until it's time to scramble for goodies - some of which may surprise you!

Urban Mini-Golf: It's an arty twist on a familiar family-friendly favorite! Each of the nine holes was designed by a local group of artists to create a one-of-a-kind mini-golf experience.

Local Comic Book Pop Up Shop: will feature comic books, mini-comics, graphic novels, prints, T-shirts and assorted swag created by some of the local brightest talents and publishers. Want to get in on the action or just curious about how comics are made? Artists will be illustrating live in the evening and create-your-own-comics activities will be running all day Saturday and Sunday!
