Souper Heroes to kick off third season

Columbus Soup and Bread, that ingenious and delicious fundraiser for local hunger-relief organizations, has renamed itself Souper Heroes, and the kickoff evening for their third season takes place tomorrow - Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Strongwater Food and Spirits, 401 W. Town St. in downtown Columbus.

Once a month during Soup Season (October thru May) Souper Heroes issues a call for soup makers who volunteer to bring a family-style crock pot full of soup to their host venue. They invite anyone and everyone to come out and enjoy all the complimentary soup and bread they want.

Visit with the soup makers, with each other and grab a drink. In support of their mission - to have fun with food and community while providing for those who don't have enough of either - they have a donation crock pot. Diners are welcome to throw a donation in there to help the organizations like The Mid-Ohio Foodbank, Children's Hunger Alliance and Neighborhood Services that Souper Heroes supports within the hunger relief system.

At all of these events, you can sign up ahead of time to make soup (but you don't have to); bread is provided this season by Matija Breads; it's communal-style eating and you make a donation to the community crock pot. The goal is to have fun with food and community while providing for those who don't have enough of either. The proceeds from this first event will go directly to The Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
