Lifting Hopes is a charitable organization committed to raising hopes and funds to support families and children impacted by childhood cancer and they are hosting their sixth annual Lifting Hopes Pump and Run this Sunday, Oct. 4, in New Albany.

New for 2015, Butch Reynolds, a U.S. Olympian and gold medalist in track, will host a free kids' clinic to talk about education, training and sportsmanship. The clinic is limited to the first 200 children registered.

Lifting Hopes offers one of Central Ohio's only Pump and Run events, a unique alternative to a traditional 5K race. The event starts with a weight lifting component where participants bench press a percentage of body weight based on age and gender. After the weight-lifting portion, a 5K race is held. For each successful lift, up to a maximum of 30 repetitions, 30 seconds is deducted from a participant's 5K time to calculate a net time, and the fastest net time wins. Attendees can also elect to participate in just the 5K race. Prizes are awarded for the top three male and female net times for the Pump and Run and the overall male and female 5K winners.

Registration fees for the 5K event are $15 before Oct. 4 or $20 day of the event. Fees for the Pump and Run are $20 before Oct. 4 and $25 day of the event.
