Daily Bulletin: Moving to Middle School

Melissa Kossler Dutton

If your child is moving up to middle school next year, it’s likely that his or her class will have the opportunity to visit the building this spring.

It’s a good opportunity to start preparing for the transition. Parents can suggest questions that students can ask during the tour or alert them to amenities (such as lockers) the middle school offers that their elementary school does not.

It’s a good idea to follow up with your own visit before classes start in August.

GreatSchools, a nonprofit that aims to help parents unlock educational opportunities for their children, offers lots of great transition tips. Read more at greatschools.org/gk/articles/smoothing-your-childs-transition-to-middle-school.
