Central Ohio women have a chance to lace up their sneakers and help fight heart disease as a local race celebrates its fifth anniversary.

The 2018 MaternOhio Run Like A Girl event, the region’s only all-women’s race, takes place Sept. 29. It features 10-mile, 10K and 5K routes as well as a children’s race. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association/Go Red for Women.

A 100-yard dash for ages 9 and younger gets underway at 7:30 a.m. All other races begin at 9 a.m. Registration for the kids event is $10; fees for the others are $45 to $55 through Aug. 31, $5 higher afterward. Run Like A Girl takes place at Genoa Park, 303 W. Broad St., Columbus.

Organizers expect more than 4,000 participants for this year’s event. Since the race began, it has raised more than $70,000 for community health and wellness organizations, according to Dan Shemenski, president of MaternOhio Clinical Associates. Run Like A Girl has benefited the AHA since 2013.
