Jack Hanna always draws a crowd at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will pull out all the stops to mark the man in tan’s 40th year at the venue.

Jack Hanna Weekend, which takes place Sept. 8-9, will include special shows, free activities and a chance to meet the director emeritus.

Hanna will appear twice daily (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.) to talk about his travels and will greet guests after the early shows. Fans also can participate in a #caughtinkhaki photo station as well as Jack Hanna’s Critter Corn Hole, Jungle Jack-O-Lantern and Jack Hanna’s Game of Chance. All activities will be held weather-permitting.

Other planned events (on tap both days, unless otherwise noted) include:

  • The sale of handcrafted items from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 at the African Marketplace, to support the Partners In Conservation program.
  • Performances by local band the Buzzard Kings at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the Conservation Lake Overlook.
  • Appearances by the zoo’s Character Ambassadors at meet and greets (9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.) and rolling celebrations (10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.).
  • Special Jack-themed enrichment at some of the animal habitats—including polar bears, gorillas and penguins—between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
