Dublin Taiko members perform.

Did you know Dublin is home to the world’s largest student Japanese drumming ensemble? If not, take advantage of the chance to see the group in action this weekend.

More than 120 students in grades 6-12 participate in Dublin Taiko, which will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Dublin Coffman High School, 6780 Coffman Road, with a special guest from Japan.

Taiko is a form of drumming that uses music and choreography to foster arts and cultural awareness. The Dublin group started as a cultural exchange in the 2004-05 school year with Davis Middle School, the Ohio Arts Council, Arts Midwest and the Dublin Arts Council. It included a residency with Eitetsu Hayashi, a master taiko soloist.

Hayashi and his ensemble, EITETSU FU-UN no KAI, will appear as guest performers Sept. 9 as part of his North American tour. Tickets, $10 to $20, are available at Seating is limited.
