Celebrate Grandparents Day Sept. 9

Grandparents Day, which is celebrated on the second Sunday in September, may not garner the attention of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day but it can still be an impetus for building intergenerational rapport.

Moms and dads can help build connections by encouraging family members to spend time with one another. KidsHealth from Nemours, a nonprofit children’s health system, offers suggestions on how parents can help their children establish bonds at kidshealth.org/en/parents/grandparents.html.

There’s also online help for grandparents who want to better relate to the youngest members of their family. The Good Samaritan Society, a nonprofit senior services provider, offers ideas at good-sam.com/resources/grandparent-and-grandkid-activities.

The National Association of Grandparenting also has numerous resources for grandparents looking to develop strong relationships with their grandkids. Check out grandkidsmatter.org.
