As magazine editors, we write about an ever-changing array of topics month after month, from crime to crème brûlée. Here are some of the most interesting things we learned while researching our February issue, with links to the full stories.

Visual artist and cult film director John Waters once served on the Wexner Center for the Arts’ International Advisory Council.

The koto, Japan’s national musical instrument, is 6 feet long and has 13 to 17 strings.

An early version of the movie script for “Groundhog Day” called for Bill Murray’s character to repeat Feb. 2 for 10,000 years.

The 2018 movie “Ophelia,” starring Daisy Ridley, Naomi Watts and Clive Owen, is based on the book of the same name by Columbus author Lisa Klein.

The Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville has a beekeeping program.

Last year, Chocolate Café in the Grandview area sold more than 2,000 chocolate-dipped strawberries on Valentine’s Day alone.

The city of Columbus powers more than 55,000 streetlights in an area that stretches from Worthington to Valleyview to Whitehall to Lockbourne.
