These 2018 issues were submitted for the General Excellence Award.

Columbus Monthly is a finalist for four City and Regional Magazine Association Awards, a new record for the publication.

For the third year in a row—and a year after winning the top prize—the magazine is once again up for the prestigious General Excellence Award (circulation less than 30,000). The award is based on an entry of three complete issues from 2018, two of which must be from consecutive months. Columbus Monthy’s entry consisted of its January, April and May issues. Other finalists in Columbus Monthly’s category are Cleveland Magazine, Honolulu Magazine, San Antonio Magazine and Sonoma Magazine.

Columbus Monthly senior editor Suzanne Goldsmith is also a finalist in the feature-story category (circulation less than 60,000) for her April 2018 story on undocumented immigrant Edith Espinal, who avoided deportation by seeking sanctuary in a Clintonville church. Two of our ancillary publications, Columbus Weddings and Columbus Monthly Health, are also up for awards. Columbus Monthly Health received the nomination for its debut issue.

Entries were considered by a wide range of judges from such publications as AARP the Magazine, Fortune, Marie Claire, The New York Times, Sports Illustrated and The Washington Post. Winning entries will be named at CRMA’s May 18-20 annual conference in Minneapolis.
