We're only days away from releasing Alive!'s fifth Local Music Compilation - the city's best showcase of new music. The free CD includes 15 new tracks from the hottest bands in town.

You can get yours at our Comfest booth or at the free release party this Friday, June 15, at Little Brother's. Until then, we'll be whetting your appetite by revealing one song from it each day this week.

Tuesday's Secret Track: Sarah Asher

Artist: Sarah Asher Track: "Love Letters" Album: Balloon on a String Listen

By far the city's most alluring ukelele player, Sarah Asher also excels as a songwriter and arranger of concise tunes about love, longing and other quirky topics that find their way into her notebook of musings.

This track, released on a five-song EP late in 2006, is one of her best. It has the airy lightness of an Hawaiian island hymn coupled with a subtle darker side. She'd be happily reading love letters, she croons in her throaty Bessie Smith style, if they only arrived on time.

She'll be playing our release show and a spot on the Solar Stage at Comfest.
