New condos at Gay and N. Fourth streets

Monday afternoon, city and county officials met with Jeff Edwards, president of Edwards Companies, to announce the creation of a series of condo developments at E. Gay and N. Fourth streets.

Modeled after units in Chicago's Lincoln Park, the gist of the project to provide those who want the urban experience with amentities most often associated with suburban residences: gardens, street-level access, garages and much nearby greenspace.

"This has been several years in the maing, and now we're ready to launch a new neighborhood in Downtown complete with backyards, individual garages, parks, landscaped sidewalks and more," Edwards said. "We know there are homebuyers that want to live Downtown, but with a neighborhood perspective."

The project eventually will head east, covering nine city blocks now occupied by surface parking lots. Units range from 600 to 2,600 square feet, and prices start in the $140,000s.
