Song of the Day: Bob Marley & the Wailers

Artist: Bob Marley & the Wailers Track: "Stir It Up" Album: Catch a Fire

Please, please, please buy the Island reissues of the classic Bob Marley & the Wailers albums released between 1973 and 1980, the stretch from Catch a Fire to Uprising.

Likely you own Legend, which is both one of the greatest albums and one of the worst. It's great because it introduced generations and millions to reggae. It's bad because people bought this album and stopped there.

What you're missing are the unimaginable artistic and musical statements that the greatest Jamaican band made over the course of its prolific career. From Legend, you get the nuanced politics of Survival, the subtle beauty of Kaya and the movement of Exodus.

But you get them in small, incomplete doses. Remedy this situation by skipping one dinner out each week and using the money to purchase one album each week. Start from the beginning and watch the greatness unfold before you.

Also, go see the Wailers tonight at LC Pavilion. The show is free.
