Your Weekend In Music: February 15-17
The biggest shows of the weekend, no doubt, are the Donewaiting five-year anniversary shows. Tonight's spectacular get-together includes Deathly Fighter, Sinkane, This Moment In Black History and Grave Blankets rocking together at Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave. That show starts at 10 p.m. and is free. As for tomorrow:
Blueprint & Brainbow's one-time collaboration headlines this Saturday Skully's tilt. (That's 1151 N. High St., folks.) They're joined by the great El Jesus de Magico, longtime Donewaiting supporters Miranda Sound and experimental overlord Mike Shiflet. 10 p.m. start for this one too, with a $5 cover. Check out my feature for more on this show.
Sunday's show at The Basement, 391 Neil Ave., should make Donewaiting founder Robert Duffy happy as well. It features his beloved AA Bondy opening for Kevin Devine and The Jealous Girlfriends. Doors open at 7 p.m. for this $10 show. Read my preview for more on Bondy.
Also, for nepotism's sake, I will mention that my roommates' Irish folk band, The Drowsy Lads, are celebrating the release of their new live album tonight at the Shamrock Club, 60 W. Castle Rd. on the South Side. Tomorrow they play Byrne's Pub, 1248 W. 3rd Ave. in Grandview. I figure it's OK to throw this in there considering the Lads have been anointed as the best in Columbus by our local Irish music illuminati.
