Nature Notes: Birding, y'all!
Thanks much to Bill Heck of Columbus Audubon for taking some time to bird with me at the Scioto Audubon Metro Park and at Greenlawn Cemetary. It was totally foggy in the morning, as you can see from the photo above, which should depict a long, wide view of the Whittier Peninsula.
We hiked along the multi-use trail at the park and then took a quick stroll near "The Pit" at the cemetary. We found interesting species, including a lingering red-breasted nuthatch and yellow-bellied sapsucker, which should have been gone to Canada by now.
I saw eight new species, bringing my total count for the year to 34. Remember: My goal is 100 this year, and I plan to hit it. Here are the new ones:
I've got plenty of more birding stuff coming up, including a trip to Magee Marsh with some ODNR folks on April 24. That place is supposed to be crazy awesome. Columbus Audubon also has some pending awesomeness, so be sure to check out the site.
