Song of the Day: Mungo Jerry
When the weather gets warm, I dig deep into my vintage record collection for all those weird slacker hippie groups who played a jangly mix of jug-band music, country, rock and pop with a loose swagger that gives everything the sense of a hilarious inside joke created during a long bender. One of these personal favorites is Mungo Jerry, a one-hit wonder who released perhaps the best summer song of all time. Just listen to the link above, and you'll be seeing sunshine and blue skies. Consider this an optimistic bonus that looks forward to better weather to come.
Others groups to check out include Dr. Hook, Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show and the earliest incarnation of War. With Mungo, also try "Lady Rose," "Alright, Alright, Alright" and "You Don't Have to Be in the Army to Fight in the War." They're all good.
