What To Do Tonight: Another polarizing night of rock

So there are two big rock shows happening tonight, and which one you'd prefer says a lot about which way you swing musically. First on the docket is gypsy-punk lightning rod Gogol Bordello, an accordion-powered romp through Eastern Europe that will not lack for energy. Joining them at Newport Music Hall, 1722 N. High St., will be Dusty Rhodes & the River Band, who were just in town opening for Blind Melon a few weeks ago. Bordello doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $20.

Across town, Nada Surf makes its umpteenth stop at The Basement, 391 Neil Ave. The one-time one-hit wonders have carved out a devoted audience since being reborn as a Death Cab-esque indie band. If the other show was marble rye, this one is whitebread. Both can be delicious, of course. Republic Tigers begin the night. $15 will get you in as soon as the 7:30 p.m. door time arrives.
