Song of the Day: Lil Wayne

Staff Writer
Columbus Alive

Lil Wayne, probably the greatest rapper on the Hot charts and certainly a favorite around this office, has released the third installment of his Carter series -- a sometimes blistering, sometimes laidback collection of songs that should at least complicate the argument that the word-twister can't handle a full-length project. Even amid the expected haze of weed smoke and synthesized sounds appears, Wayne sounds sharp, spitting hilarious one-liners that have made him a favorite among gangstas and hipsters alike. A few clever guest spots -- namely by T-Pain and Wayne's mentor Jay-Z -- make this one of the best rap albums of 2008.

My favorite tracks: 1. "3 Peat" 2. "Got Money" 3. "Mr. Carter" 4. "Comfortable"

Sorry for linking above to a ridiculous music player, but Wayne hasn't made full versions of any songs available for streaming. At least this will give you a taste of the entire record.
