What To Do Tonight: Dig into Weeds

Weeds, Showtime's smart, sassy comedy that tackles hypocrisy in the suburbs through the lens of a widowed mother of two who takes up dealing drugs to stay afloat, returns for its fourth season tonight at 10. Last season was pretty choppy, so it will be interesting to see if the once-killer show can rebound with a solid story arc from start to finish. As tonight's premiere kicks off, we're promised an entirely new show as main MILF Nancy Botwin flees the town of Agrestic. I'm curious to find out what the change in scenery will mean for a program that has always relied so much on poking and prodding suburbia. EW has a spoiler-y guide intended to catch new viewers up with the plot but better-suited to remind us veterans where things left off, and USA Today has a story about the series' return.

Other big programming for the night includes Resolved (9 p.m., HBO), a documentary about high school debate teams — here's an interview with the director and Pop Candy's take — and the premiere of Secret Diary of a Call Girl (10:30 p.m., Showtime), the follow-up to Weeds.

As for live music, country songstress Lydia Loveless plays Bernie's, 1896 N. High St., and apparent douche supreme Josh Hoge comes to The Basement, 391 Neil Ave.
