Nature Notes: VHS, Twin Creek and more

Sorry that I've been lax in posting outdoor news, but I've been swamped with some other awesome features and, you know, actually being outside. Look for the Nature Notes in the Alive this Thursday. For now, here are some interesting things:

  • Some friends and I are heading to Dayton's Five River MetroParks this weekend to hike the Twin Creek backpacking loop. I did the other half of the trail -- in the Germantown park -- in May. Check out the great things they're doing. (See photo above.)
  • State and national wildlife officials thought that viral hemorrhagic septicemia was contained in the Great Lakes, but recent confirmation of the fatal fish disease in the Clear Fork Reservoir means species throughout Ohio could be at risk. Quick info here.
  • The Columbus Flyers will host the Brent Hambrick Memorial Open, a stop on the national disc-golf tour, July 12-13. I'm meeting with those interesting chaps for a round on Monday. Feature coverage will follow on July 10.
  • As always, tons of great outdoor programs here.
