What To Do Tonight: Heroes, The Swell Season

I'm going to shuffle things around and try to run down the night's best entertainment earlier in the day, so as to allow you readers time to adjust your nightly schedules accordingly. On with the shows...

Heroes (9 p.m., NBC) returns tonight for its third season, subtitled "Villains." Let's hope the series gets back on the right track after a lackluster second season that was cut short after only 11 episodes thanks to the writers' strike. Doesn't sound promising, though.

The night's best music will be at Palace Theatre, 34 W. Broad St., where The Swell Season headlines. The duo — Glen Hansard, singer of beloved Irish rock band The Frames, and Czech musician Marketa Irglova — came to prominence as stars of the breakout indie musical Once. They'll be backed by a full band tonight as they play songs from the film and much more. The show begins super early with a 7 p.m. opening set from one-time Smog frontman Bill Callahan. Tickets cost $22.50-$35. Look for my full interview with Glen Hansard here on the blog later today; in the meantime, here's a little teaser.

Oh, and apparently Celine Dion's in town.
