Song of the Day: Parts & Labor

"Satellites," the opening track from Parts & Labor's blistering Receivers, sounds most like triumphant work of classic Brian Eno with a twist. The band flings his ambient concepts -- repetition with subtle changes, unique vocals weaving in front of and behind music -- into the harsh sounds of post-punk fury. It's like humming his soothing airport loops as your plane crashes into a mountain.

It's their best work, though the track above is also quite good. This is some of the best post-punk to emerge in 2008, largely because it never forgets that much of the most enduring punk worked subversively: catchy music that contained things you never expected in catchy music.
