What To Do Tonight: Choose your preferred brand of hip-hop

Two big hip-hop shows are happening in town tonight:

(1) Houston's one and only Bun B will be at Karma, 303 S. Front St. I can't front like I've been rocking Bun's seminal rap group UGK my whole life, but as "International Players Anthem" has gradually revealed its glory to me over the past year (totally should have been my No. 1 single of '07), I have come to appreciate all that Bun has to offer. His new II Trill is a solid offering of Southern sass that doesn't submit itself to genre limitations. This is one of those Scion Live Metro shows, which means it's free but you have to RSVP beforehand. This'll be a 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m. deal. Check out Wes Flexner's feature for more on why this show will be hot. And remember, R.I.P. Pimp C.

(2) Mac Lethal will bring his considerable but occasionally off-putting mic skills to So What Wednesday at Cafe Bourbon Street, 2216 Summit St. For more on the former Scribble Jam battle rap champion, check my preview and my album review from earlier this year. Doors at 10 p.m., and probably a small cover, though I'm not sure how much.
