Song of the Day: Some experimental music you might like

During the past several years, an experimental music scene has blossomed Downtown, as Columbus musicians from different genres put crazy sounds on tape and bring in international brethren famous for breaking boundaries.

One of them is percussion master Tatsuya Nakatani, coming to town tonight. His Primal Communication, released in 2007, is just that: a man using drums, gongs, cymbals, singing bowls, metal objects, bells and invented instruments to create a dense, emotional landscape that alternately soothes and scares.

I just got word from promoter Gerard Cox that tonight's show -- which features Nakatani, The Rhythm Raptors and local guests -- is still on right now, though he'll give another update an hour beforehand. Doors open at the Columbus Dance Theatre, 592 E. Main St., at 8 p.m. Admission starts at $5.
