What To Do Tonight: Appreciate Michigan for once

Columbus Alive

Michigan's soulful trio-turned-duo The Hard Lessons returns to Columbus tonight, and this time they'll play The Basement, 391 Neil Ave. They're like a thicker, more melodic take on that candy cane-colored Detroit duo we all know and love. Doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets cost $10. Maybe more exciting, though, is the lineup of three diverse bands, all fellow Michiganders, set to open the show: Remix masters My Dear Disco, splendidly sleepy indie rockers Javelins and Great Lakes Myth Society, a melody-minded band too complex to shoehorn into one genre.

Also of note: Somber, sincere pop rock balladeer Greg Laswell will be at Rumba Cafe, 2507 Summit St. Anya Marina and Jay Nash'll play too.
