Song of the Day: This is why Mims is still hot
"Everyone cools off from being hot," chimed De La Soul's Plug 1 on The Grind Date. "It's about if you can handle being cold or not."
That wisdom would inform my first question regarding Mims, who destroyed charts several years back with the absolutely genius "This Is Why I'm Hot": Not could he match his meteoric single, but could he produce something substantial in its wake?
"Guilt," the opening track to an album of the same name out today, is a smooth jam backed by an R&B house band and fronted by a rapper who sounds equally confident and clever. It sets the tone for an album that's surprisingly tight and extremely well-produced. This is evidence of an artist much deeper than the one-hit wonders that seem to flood the rap charts each week.
It should shock anyone who thought Mims would be one and done.
