What To Do Thursday: Overrated and underrated

The biggest show of the night is Neko Case at Newport Music Hall, but as my preview from last week's paper suggested, I think she's pretty overrated. Even if you check out her $25 concert with Crooked Fingers, for which doors open at 7 p.m., you might still have time to catch a superior show across town.

Hotel Eden is the guise of one-man band Kelly Warner, who used to be one half of musically adventurous hip-hop duo the Lab Rats. I am personally responsible for underrating him in that considering how good his latest project is, I haven't given him sufficient press yet. (Don't worry; it's coming soon.) Warner will team with Ocean Ghosts tonight at The Treehouse, 887 Chambers Rd. Before, between and after each band performs its set, their members will combine to DJ a dance party around that giant glowing tree trunk. Supposedly Hotel Eden is starting at 10 p.m., but here's hoping he'll be a little later so you Case fans have a chance to catch this too.
