What To Do Monday: Castanets

Castanets, the Asthmatic Kitty-affiliated freak folks fronted by Raymond Raposa, will play tonight at The Shelf, 57 E. Gay St., 4th floor (one level below Skylab). Not sure what kind of lineup Raposa is bringing — could be just himself, for all I know — but either way expect to hear songs from his upcoming Texas Rose, the Beasts, and the Thaw. The evening begins with a potluck at 6 p.m. followed by music at 7 from the likes of Time and Temperature, Hurray for the Riff Raff, M.A. Turner and Dark Dark Dark. Drawings by Eva Ball will be on display all night. They're asking for a $7 donation if you can swing it due to the large amount of touring bands.
