What To Do Wednesday: Jay-Z, Ben Folds

Columbus Alive

The biggest show in Columbus tonight — and perhaps the biggest for the entire month of Rocktober — stars Shawn Carter aka Jigga aka Hova aka Mr. Beyonce aka Jay-Z. The hip-hop monolith will bring his Blueprint 3 tour to the Schottenstein Center, 555 Borror Dr., but not before stopping off at Yankee Stadium to open the World Series. While we wait for Jay to touch down in Columbus, we'll be entertained by N.E.R.D. (always fun live), Wale (one of the freshest) and J. Cole (haven't heard him but he must be doing something right to get this gig). It all begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $125.

Now let's shift gears from the hood to the suburbs: Ben Folds will be in town too, performing with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra at Vets Memorial Auditorium, 300 W. Broad St. Folds' catalog is uniquely suited for such a collaboration, and after years of solo tours, it would be nice to hear his tunes decked out in full splendor. Tickets range from $25 to $75 for this 7:30 p.m. engagement.
