What To Do Thursday: Dan Auerbach, Crew playoffs
Dan Auerbach, the guitar-and-vocals half of The Black Keys, plays Newport Music Hall, 1722 N. High St., tonight with support from two strong solo acts: Jessica Lea Mayfield and Justin Townes Earle. To get ready, read my feature interview with Auerbach and look out for more from Akron's biggest rock star* later today on the blog. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets cost $20.
*Yeah, I think it's fair to say the Keys have eclipsed Devo in the public consciousness, though I still prefer Devo.
OK Go, the pop rock crew known more for their goofy viral videos than their half-decent hooks, will play The Basement, 391 Neil Ave. Vital stats on this one: 7 p.m. doors, $12 tickets and an opening set from Princeton.
Also, I hear there's an early show at Cafe Bourbon Street, 2216 Summit St., from a Minneapolis band called Knife World. Examine the hype. Skoal Kodiak and this town's own Time & Temperature will play too between 7-9 p.m.
Lastly, there's a rather important soccer match tonight at Crew Stadium.
