What To Do Wednesday: The Entrance Band, Canibus

At least two big shows of note crackin' in Columbus tonight:

Of most interest to me is The Entrance Band at The Summit, 2210 Summit St. As indicated in my preview, they play darkly twisted psych-pop tunes that hit hard rhythmically and come through melodically in the clutch. They're the sort of band that can jam out for minutes on end without getting in a rut but can also pound out tight, lean powerhouse songs. Joining them will be Brooklyn's Lights, a Drag City act that reminds me of a hipster Fleetwood Mac (for real), and local instrumental powerhouse Brainbow. Doors at 8 p.m., music at 9. $8 cover.

Then there's the rap cypher starring Canibus at Mozaik Lounge, 51 Vine St. After he performs a standard set, Canibus will join some of the C.O.'s finest — The Catalyst, C10, Searius Add, Zero Star and more — in a freestyle cypher. (More on cyphers in my preview.) Definitely seems like something different from your average hip-hop night. What's more, it's free. Sick. 9 p.m. start.
