Local Love: The Town Monster

Keyboards: The Town Monster has 'em, and they're not afraid to use 'em. The Columbus quartet has been releasing a monthly series of "Ohio Sessions" EPs to its Bandcamp page in addition to debut full-length "Autumn People" coming later this spring.

These songs are steeped in synth sounds both glitchy and smooth, with a hearty helping of New Wave/club music influence. But they're indie rock at heart; occasionally, they bust out the acoustic guitars to show just how far they can stretch their sound while still sounding like the Town Monster. The end result is somewhere between Hot Chip and Wolf Parade.

Shuffling through these tracks today makes me excited to pop in the copy of "Autumn People" that arrived on my desk last week. In the meantime, they're playing the latest TRIO showcase Friday at Circus, 1227 N. High St., alongside Couch Forts and The Alphabeticals.
