Forbes tells us what we already know. Plus: Short North weekend deals

Columbus is the fifth best shopping city in the States, according to Forbes, thanks to our 32 shopping centers and 5,712 retail locations. The south’s shopping powerhouses took the first three spots: Houston, Phoenix and Dallas, respectively. Baltimore came in fourth. Check out the full list here.

Those of you who helped our city break the top five might also enjoy this news: The Short North is hosting a Holiday [s]Hop Friday through Sunday. It's suspiciously similar to a gallery hop, but I can't complain about that. The [s]Hop will feature sales and specials at the retail spaces throughout the weekend, and there will be carolers and entertainers up and down the arch-lit streets.

Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., volunteers will make up for any lingering procrastination and wrap your gifts for free at the following locations: LeChocolique, Alexander's Jewelers, Undone Lingerie & Shoes, Substance and Camelot Cellars.
