Knotty Pine's opens with Mirror Lake IPA and Cherry Wood Smoked Porter
Knotty Pine Brewing in Grandview has been up and running for a month now, with their debut menu and initial beers flowing.
Owner Jay Kessler said the restaurant and brewery has enjoyed a good response so far. "People are very excited that the Knotty Pine name is back," he said. "The Grandview community has been very welcoming and friendly and encouraging."
Kessler is aiming to keep four rotating house brews on tap. The Mirror Lake IPA and Cherry Wood Smoked Porter are currently available, with a peach wheat and Belgian-style brown ale coming soon. Kessler's doing the brewing himself. He's an experienced homebrewer - he smokes the black barley for the porter himself - although he hired a consultant to bring him up to speed on commercial brewing.
He said they've enjoyed a good response to chef Bret Perichak's menu, too, particularly the pizzas and burgers. Perichak works up many of the ingredients from scratch, including ricotta and mozzarella cheeses for the pizza, or housemade ketchup, aioli and pickles for their burgers.
Kessler, who used to be part owner in Rude Dog Bar & Grill in Pickerington, is bringing the Knotty Pine back in name, but he's recreating some of the former restaurant with décor and menu items. "We have a bunch of the pictures that were hanging on the walls," he said. "We got many of them from the community." Kessler said the summer menu will be reminiscent of old Knotty Pine favorites like ribs and smoked wings.
